As a Vote Forward Partner, your organization can help engage millions of low propensity and unregistered voters and encourage them to participate in our democracy.
Multiple independently validated randomized trials have shown that writing these letters in the single most effective use of volunteer time from afar. It’s also an easy and fun activity that volunteers can do from home, an onramp to additional civic actions, and a great way to engage your grassroots audience with a tangible call-to-action beyond the usual fundraising appeals.

Volunteer Experience
With a Vote Forward account, volunteers will gain access to their own volunteer Dashboard. From the dashboard, they can adopt voters, download typed letter templates to which they’ll add a handwritten message, manage progress by marking letters “prepared,” and marking them “sent” on the mail date.
Signing up for Vote Forward
Volunteers sign up through your co-branded landing page to create a Vote Forward account. During the signup process, volunteers are asked to verify their email address and answer a few short screening questions to ensure they are human beings with good intentions.
Choosing a campaign and adopting letters
Once approved, volunteers can begin “adopting” voters. Based on your organization’s goals and priorities, volunteers can be automatically assigned to any priority state within Vote Forward’s existing campaigns. After they’ve adopted voters, in batches of 5 or 20 at a time, volunteers use the download link to create and print a pdf, which includes a Voter List and letter templates. Each letter includes an opt out code, the voter’s address, and the return address to use (so they don’t have to use their own.)
Preparing and sending letters
On each letter the volunteer fills in the recipient’s name and their own reason for voting. Then they put it in an envelope, address the envelope, and add a stamp. Easy! Evidence shows that these kinds of messages have greater impact if they are sent as close as possible to the election without missing it, so we’re writing letters now to store in a safe place and mail all at once in late October. We’ll remind volunteers multiple times before the mail date to make sure all their letters get sent.
